Light and smooth with a medium body.
At glance, the Francis Ford Coppola 2006 Rosso Red Blend is rich dark purple with a little bit of red hue in color. On the nose, a strong sweet maple aroma blended with some dark fruit, currant and dark cherry were quite prominent. On the palate, the maple aroma carries over onto the palate, mixed with a little bit of tannin, smoky tobacco, oak, drawing to a peppery spice finish. Also on the palate was a little bit of blackberry, earthy mineral, and a vegetable, bell pepper, herbaceous taste.
The Rosso at first sip is strong and pulls a powerful punch, but it does open up as it breathes, so open 30 min to an hour before drinking is recommended.
When tasting this wine, I think of cooking a Tomato Braised Short Rib or something acidic and hearty like a Pasta Bolognese or a Meatball Sandwich.
